Dreaming of Disneyland

Last year I promised the kids that this year we would take them to Disneyland. Since such promise was made, the kids think about it all the time. Now it's my turn.

I'm really excited about going. I've never been before and it's someplace I have always wanted to visit. I have high expectations for this particular vacation. Because of that, I'm anxious about the plans. I'm nervous that because I don't have any experience, I will miss lots of details and spend more money than I need to.

Do you guys have any pointers for me?

Run, don't walk to your local library and check out the different books they have on Disneyland!

There are tons...and they have lots of pointers how to save money.

Also, we always plan on eating two meals out of the park and one in (although you could skip this too.)

We eat breakfast out (stay at a hotel that includes breakfast) and we take our lunches (again a hotel with a little fridge will save you money). We also take all our snacks for the day.

Disneyland rents lockers at the front of the park and we get the big one...it's $5 or $7 something like that...and you can open and close it as many times as you want during the day. Just plan on circling through the park so that you hit your locker at the right times.

Also, call on your tickets. When we went they were having a buy one get one free ticket that I only found out about because we called. Also check the internet specials on tickets.

We also told the kids that we would wait until the last day to buy their souvienr and that they could only have one...that they should look each day to see what they REALLY wanted...and we wound up with things the kids still use or have (like hats or snowglobes).

Also bring your own water bottles. They have water fountains throughout the park and you can refill yours.

WE got these little straps so that each kid could carry their own water bottle.

Also, we carried one backpack as a family with snacks and baby stuff.

Oh, and they have an awesome mother's area at Disneyland...there is a quiet place to nurse or warm up bottles or whatever. It's awesome. It's right by first aid.

Is this too much?

I hope you have such a good time. There are TONS of ways to save money...you just need to plan ahead.

Don't buy anything INSIDE the park unless you absolutely must.

Also, scope out the different places to eat. Some places serve A LOT more food than others...the places that serve stuff like fried chicken will feed two kids...same with the place that service mexican food...and stay away from the kids meals...because you get so much more food with a big meal and you can share.

If I think of anything, you know i'll let you know!

Fun, fun, fun.

That is exactly the kind of advice I want. The more the better. I didn't even think about going to the library (duh). Those are all great ideas! Keep them coming!

We absolutely LOVE Disneyland. Get there EARLY and RUN to the big rides. My favorite ride is Peter Pan, and I consider it a "big" ride because the line can be 2 hours long, easy. We did this one first one day and ran right on, and I was satisfied. Read about them, decide what your kids will love, and go for it! Take FULL advantage of the Fast Passes, they save a TON of time! And yes, that mother's lounge is FANTASTIC! Wish I would have used it more! Have a GREAT time! When are you going?

We don't have exact dates yet, probably the end of September or the beginning of October. We figured that the crowds won't be as bad then.

Any other recommendations on what the "best" rides are?

If you do california adventure, don't miss soaring over california.

Also, if you buy a multi-day pass, ask about early admission. Depending on what type of pass you buy you can get a ticket to get in an hour early on one day. It is awesome!

Denise hit everything on the nose!!! The only other thing that I would Highly recommend you doing is go to the park Monday - Wednesday if possible. It is so much more busy on Thursday -Saturday, it's nuts.

We took our family last September and the wait was almost nothing. I think the longest we waited in line was 15-20minutes. So go in Sept. if you can.

In fact, we already have our Hotel booked for this September again.
We LOVE Disneyland. And just like Denise said, Don't MISS Soaring over California, it was by far my favorite ride!!!

I'm glad you did this- I've been talking to everyone I can. Also- the hotel that Amberlyn's family is staying at is the same one another family in our ward stayed at and from what I know it's nice but not too expensive. I'll get the details and we should start planning! We are so excited!
