Riverdance

A couple of months ago I was looking at our ward bulletin and I noticed that the BYU alumni association was offering discount tickets to Riverdance. I had heard that this was going to be their last year touring in America. Riverdance is one of my most favorite productions. I knew the kids would love seeing it and I didn't want them to miss out on that chance. So I ordered tickets. The prices were actually pretty good for the limited viewing seats. I had never ordered tickets this way and so I emailed the contact person to find out the procedure. He emailed me back and told me to just make the check out to him and send it to his address (which was in Washington). He then told me that he would send me the tickets but not to expect them until about a week before the performance. This kind of made me nervous. It seemed strange that he would have a Washington address and yet got the post into our ward bulletin. I asked Daniel if he thought this was legit? He told me that I was probably worrying to much and he was fairly sure that it wasn't a scam. (I use to not be this paranoid, I promise).

So I sent him the money but didn't tell the kids about it just in case we ended up not getting the tickets. I waited and waited but no tickets. Of course he had told me not to expect them early but I was hoping. Then on Sunday the 20th of Jan. he called me. (Actually he called me about a week before that and left me a message saying he didn't have my money, and wanted to know where it was. A minute later he left me another message saying he was sorry and that he had made a mistake and that he did have it after all. This did not boost my confidence any).

So back to his call on the Sunday. He told me that he had sent the tickets but if I didn't get them by Tuesday afternoon to give him a call and he would get in touch with will call and have them waiting at the ticket office. I thought this also a little strange. Why did he want me to call on Tuesday? The show wasn't until the next Monday so there were several more days before the show. Or so I thought! Monday came, no tickets. Tuesday, no tickets. I thought I would give the mail one more day and then I would call him.

Wednesday afternoon I went out and checked the mail and to my surprise the tickets were here. I tore open the envelope and to my horror the date on the tickets were for that very night. Daniel and I had just got back from cutting wood and we were covered in mud, not to mention the state the van was in. Christopher had a friend over who was staying until 7:00. It was mutual night and Daniel had a planning meeting scheduled for just before. I didn't have babysitters set up for Bri and Michael, and it was 4:30. I panicked.

All I have to say is thank heavens for good friends. Jennifer came to the rescue and watched the kids for me and let Christopher's friend stay at her house until his parents arrived. Daniel rescheduled his meeting and got another leader to cover him at mutual. He quickly put the van back together. I told my mom about the date mix up and then we all scrambled to get ourselves and the kids ready in time.

Miracle of miracles we made it on time. In fact we had enough time to spare that we ran over to Quizno's and had a quick bite to eat before the performance.

The production was amazing! Both Chris and Kira thought it was great. Kira sat on my lap the whole time and asked me what each number was trying to say. I tried to explain the best that I could but mostly I ended up telling her that we would have to look it up later. She was enthralled. Christopher said he was really impressed but it was harder to tell with him. Here are some pictures we took while we were there. After the first shot an usher came rushing up to us and told us that we were not allowed to take any pictures of the performance and that we couldn't even point our camera in the direction of the stage.

What a Night!

I am glad you got to go! What a fun show. I love Irish music...(closet bagpipe fan!!!) If you like that kind of music, you should check out the group Altan. They are amazing.

Lucky you!

These are the kinds of experiences our children will remember for a long time to come.

What a story! I'm glad you made it! I've never been, but heard it was quite the thing to see.

I'm glad it worked out for you. I can imagine what basket-case you were! But it sounds like it all worked out in the end!
